For primary research we used the website survey monkey to ask people questions about a middle working class lifestyle in Britain. Survey monkey is a platform were people can put there questions out online for free and let the public answer them. We asked questions like... What you expect a single mum to live in?, What you expect a middle class family to be dressed in?, Where you would expect to see a troubled teen in a city? etc.

'In the heat coffee shop scene Michael Mann uses reverse shots to show that the conversation flows smoothly. He also uses close up shots of the actors faces to show the seriousness of the situation. In our version of the heat coffee shop scene we are going to use some of the main camera movements Arnold's uses like hand held and close up shots of the actors. The reason Arnold's uses hand held is because she likes the reality of real life. She uses close ups to show the actors emotions. Michael Mann uses very simple angles in his films.
In Michael Mann's films he uses a range of different shot sizes also he cuts them in editing to the size that he wants. In Arnold's films she likes to use extreme close ups so the characters look isolated, mainly her shot sizes are quite small. In Michael Mann's films he likes to use a wide range of sound from tea spoons in coffee cups to bombs a bullets flying out of a gun. Michael Mann's genre is crime thriller so gun shots, bombs and loud sounds are his usual type of sound is shocking and dramatic. Arnold's type of sound effects is completely different to Michael Mann's type, Arnold's sounds are very natural like the dialogue on the script and everyday sounds like birds, cars, taps, people talking, dogs barking, doors slamming, etc. When Andrea Arnold started to direct she started with making short films. She felt like the short films could connect with the audience and tell a short story about what some people have to go through in life. Arnold's tends to put single mothers in her films as she has a strong connection with the subject as she was brought up with just her single mother. She believes that this is something a lot of women can't help due to not having enough help from social workers and doctors. An example of her putting a single mother into her films is the short film wasp. In Wasp a single mother of four young children struggles with providing food for her children as she doesn't have a lot of money. Arnold's also likes to make her films with brutal reality and she feels like it has a story to tell. Arnold's gets her inspiration from the style dogma 95, which is a filmmaking movement. Arnold's tends to use females as the main characters in her films as she believes in female power. In Arnold's films she tends to put in senses of isolation so you can feel for the characters and see how much they are struggling with being alone or the fear of being alone. Arnold's also shooting in a 4:3 ratio in a lot of films which is an old school way of shooting. I believe Arnold's uses 4:3 as she believes it gives the shots an older feel.
