The first and second Mamma Mia are exactly one decade apart and are both quite similar and different at the same time. Im going to start with the similarities of the first and the second movie. The first similarity is they have the same characters to an extent because it is carrying on a story. And the second similarity is that both of these movies are musicals and they have some of the same music in them. Know i'm going to talk the differences in the two movies. Firstly I want to talk about how women in the first movie a lot more sexualised than in the second movie an example of this would be the beach scene with Sophie and Sky. And in the second movie things are less sexualised as young Donna is by herself and more independent. Also in the first movie women are shown to be doing a lot more work and in the second movie it shows equality between men and women.
After 911 film changed and became more sensitive, this was because of people were more aware of the dangers that surrounded society. It had an important impact on film company's and broadcasters, this was because after 911 people were more cautious of the sensitive aspect of films and were more careful with scripts and backgrounds. An example of a post 911 films Mean girls, in mean girls producers and directors were careful of what they put in scripts and character backgrounds so they wouldn't upset any of the audience. The economy fell after 911 as billions of dollars were spent on reparations and a lot of people had to find a new source of income. After 911 people felt fear to travel and airports provided more security to avoid something like 911 happening again. In mean girls with the the school fighting scene i felt like it was a reference to the world ending like in 911. The effect that 911 had on society was a big one. As it effected people by putting fear in their minds. This carried one into film by directors making films more scary to portray this fear.
Firstly, i want to talk about the way films in the 1980s looked and how they were presented to the public eye. In the 1980s film was brought out with a lot of pastel colors the reason for this was at the time pastel was in fashion and appealed to certain audiences at the time, also pastel colors were mostly used in RomComs or teenage dramas, the colors were used in mostly teenage dramas as teenagers follow trends. If it wasn't pastel then it was darker colors in action and thriller movies this showed that the genre of the movie had reoccurring themes, showing the movie as dark film with colors here and there meant to some audience members that it was dramatic and had a lot of suspension on what was going to happen next. Secondly, i want to talk about the racial aspects of 1980s film. In the 1980s there was many more white actors as people believed they brought in a bigger audience and in some senses black actors where discriminated because of past prejudices. However black actors were still in films but just not usually the main role, today society has a equal amount of black to white actors due to equality. Lastly, i want to talk about Costumes, Hair and Makeup. In the 1980s costumes were bright and bold to make a statement in films. The 1980s was also big for dramatic hair etc: crimped, big bold curls or a huge up do, was the way to go when filming. And finally the makeup, in the 80s makeup was always bold and color they brought that aspect into films to make it appealing for the audience.
Video essay: A video essay is a video of yourself talking about the aspects of a subject. ( That subject could be anything you want). To make a more advanced Video essay you can edit in clips that are relevant to the subject your talking about. With video essays people usual have revision cards to prompt them while talking and edited smoothly to make the presentation or conversation flow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H13yrUgQT4A Presentations: A presentation is presented talk with an audience. Presentations take a lot of pre planning as its like a live talk, you have to know what your going to talk about before you present it. Most people that choose to present will bring up prompt cards with them to help them in what there going to talk about and will also have a powerpoint to back up the information there talking about. Podcast: A podcast is a radio show that you listen to . I doesn't have video and this is to get the attention of those who don't like watching video and like listening to the audio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oerm5Q_9u2A Discussion video:
A discussion video is a video between to people talking these were made to make filming more interesting for viewers so they can listen to two peoples thoughts, ideas and views. Understanding film through context means understand the filmmaking process and what you have to do to make a film in a certain style and genre. Some filmmakers assume that the audience know about the context of a films story however sometimes audiences members come in not know anything about the film so title cards and a back story are put in the film to help the understanding of whats going on, on the screen. Most filmmakers make dissuasions in film due to the past and the way they grew up as a child. For example Andrea Arnold grew up with her single mother that struggled with money, Arnold's brings that aspect of her life into her films as she has a strong feeling for people that struggle and wants to raise awareness of this subject. The one thing that worries people with the context of film making and today is that fact that it can affect society with a negative affect and can make the back story of the film look bad. But it can also make the back story look better in ways as well.
In The Breakfast Club i believe that they use characters that you would typically see in a teenage genre film. They used characters like the popular girl, the jock, the odd one, the geek and the bad boy. In another example of a film in the 80s would be 16 candles they also go by these rules of having a set of characters like this. Also at the start of The Breakfast Club it starts with them all never expecting to talk to each other being in Saturday detention but then ends in them all being apart of a friendship that no one would have put together. In the 1980s the story of teenage genre tended to go down the same line character wise and have the groups and single people out. I feel that they did this as a way to show this is what being a teenager is like when the reality is completely different. They give centre teenagers different amounts of power and use their looks as a way to show what kind of person they are. Many people believe that The Breakfast Club was made to bring the schools community of teenagers together, and others believe it just single out certain teenagers and made more schools have certain stereotyped teenagers. In Mean girls they use characters that you would typically see in a Modern day teenage genre film. They use characters like the Mean girl that everyones scared of, the popular sporty boy, the unpopular new girl and the weird friends. Another example of a Modern day teenage genre film would be clueless which has the same principle of Mean girls. One of the similarities of Mean girls and The Breakfast Club is at the start you would never expect these characters to mix but in the end they all come together to try and show that all teenagers are equal. In the 2000s the idea of a teenage genre film was to show that some teenagers had a lot more power over others all due to popularity and wealth. Many people believe that Mean girls was made to be a comedic teenager film that grasped the attention of a younger audience and others believed that the film brought bullying, fighting and bad behavior to schools in the 2000s.
